To add a new frequency (edit an existing frequency)
1. On the MaSTR main menu, click Frequency.
The Frequency page opens.
2. On the Frequency page, click the name of the frequency that you are editing.
The Frequency Information page opens.
3. In the left section of the Frequency Information page, select the Download format for editing the file: tsv (the default value) or .json, and then click Download.
The selected frequency file is immediately downloaded to the Downloads directory on the MaSTR Windows client.
4. Edit the downloaded frequency file, where editing includes the following actions:
Required action: Editing the file name in the file itself, where the name must be a unique name and:
If you downloaded the frequency file in *.tsv format, then you must edit the file name in the #Name field, which is the first field in the file.
If you downloaded the frequency file in *.json format, then you must edit the file name in the “name”: field, which is the last field in the file.

The name cannot be the name of any other frequency that is currently loaded in the MaSTR database and it cannot be the name of a frequency that was used in an analysis and then permanently deleted from the MaSTR database.
Optional actions:
Adding another marker to the frequency.
Adding or deleting alleles for a marker in the frequency.
Editing the frequency for an allele in one or more populations.
Editing the sample information for a population frequency.
5. In the file editing application, use the Save As command to save the file as a new file.
Note the following when you use the Save As command:
The current file name that is displayed in the File Name field always includes the file format (*.tsv or *.json), for example, Hill_et_all2011.tsv or Hill_et_all2011.json.
For a *.tsv file, you can leave or remove the file format in the name.
For a *.json file, you must leave the file format in the name.

For easy traceability and version tracking, you should name the file exactly as you entered the name in the file itself, either the #Name field for a *.tsv file or the “name”: field for a *.json file.
The Save As type field displays Text Documents (*.txt) and you cannot change this.
6. On the Frequency page, click Upload Frequencies.
The Frequency Upload page opens.
7. Click Upload.
The File Upload dialog box opens. The file type is set to All Supported Types (*.txt, *.json).
For a *.tsv file that contains the file format in its name (for example, Hill_Modified.tsv), or for a *.json file, you can leave the file type set as-is, or optionally, to filter the files that are displayed for uploading, select a single file type (*.txt or *.json).
For a *.tsv file that does not contain the file format in its name (for example,Hill_Modified.txt), you must set the file type to All Files (*.*).
8. In the File Upload dialog box, scroll to and select the edited frequency file, and then click Open.
The File Upload dialog box closes, and the selected file is displayed in the Frequency field. The file name that is displayed is the file name that you entered in the #Name field for a *.tsv file or the “name”: field for a *.json file.
9. Click Submit.
The Frequency Upload page closes. The Frequency page opens. The newly added frequency is the first entry on the page.
