To estimate system parameters
1. On the MaSTR main menu, click System Parameters.
The System Parameters page opens.
2. Click Estimate System Parameters.
The Estimate System Parameters page opens. The page has the following default characteristics:
The Name field is automatically populated with a default name for the system parameters in a format that is based on the current date and time, for example, Analysis_2024-05-16T11:05:06.
The Panel field is pre-populated with a panel– either the panel that was last added/uploaded to the MaSTR database or the panel that was last used for an analysis.
3. Optionally, edit the name for the set of system parameters that MaSTR is estimating.

The name cannot be the name of any other system parameters set that is currently loaded in the MaSTR database and it cannot be the name of a parameters set that was used in an analysis and then permanently deleted from the MaSTR database.
4. On the Panel dropdown list, select the panel that was used to analyze the single source validation samples.

If the correct panel is not displayed on the Panel dropdown list, then you must add the panel to the MaSTR database. Getting Started with Panels in MaSTR.
5. Upload the required Single Source Signal file and the Single Source Profile file.
6. Optionally, do any or all of the following:
Upload a LUS data file.
Upload a user-defined Stutter file.
Select Random Seed, and then click OK to close the message that informs you to set the random seed only if you are recreating the system parameters.

Although generating a random seed is optional, SoftGenetics strongly suggests that you always do so when estimating system parameters.
7. Click Estimate.
The Estimate System Parameters page closes. The System Parameters page opens and the estimation job starts. The job is the first entry listed on the page. The status for the set is automatically set to Active. The number of tasks completed is dynamically updated in the Completed column as the job is carried out. The estimation is typically completed in < 1 minute.

To cancel an in-process estimation job, click the name of the system parameters set, and then at the top of the Job Status page that opens, click Cancel System Parameters Job. The job is immediately canceled and you return to the System Parameters page. The entry for the estimation job is no longer displayed on the page.
Two results are possible:
The estimation job is completed successfully. “6 of 6 tasks” is displayed in the Completed column. Continue to Viewing and Managing a System Parameters Set.
The estimation job fails at a particular task, for example, no further progress is noted after Task 1 (Download) has completed, which indicates that there are issues with Task 2 (Validate). Continue to To review and cancel a failed estimation job.
