Getting Started with Panels in MaSTR
In MaSTR, a panel contains information about the loci that were amplified for an STR analysis job, including the marker name, the markers that are present and enabled in the panel, the alleles that are possible in each marker, the analytical threshold for each marker., and the marker repeat length.
The Panel page lists the panels that have been added or uploaded to the MaSTR database in reverse chronological order and that can be used in a DNA analysis. The eight commercially available megaplexes that forensic labs most commonly are pre-loaded into the MaSTR database.
The following information is displayed for a panel on the Panel page:
• The panel name. The name is a hyperlink to the Panel Information page, which details panel-specific information and also provides options for working with the panel.
• The panel creation date. The date that the panel was added/uploaded to the MaSTR database. For the eight pre-loaded panels, this is the date that MaSTR was installed on the server.
• The panel owner. The username for the user who added/uploaded the panel to the MaSTR database. For the eight pre-loaded panels, this is the username for the default Admin user who installed MaSTR on the server.
• The Status indicator. By default, any panel that is added/uploaded to the MaSTR database is added/uploaded with an “Active” status, which is indicated by a white checkmark with a blue background in the Active column. A panel with an Active status can be used in a DNA analysis. If a panel does not have an Active status, then the Status indicator is a blank checkbox and the panel cannot be used in a DNA analysis.
You can open a panel in MaSTR simply to view its information, or after viewing the information, you have four options for working with a panel. You can download and edit a panel and then upload the edited panel to theMaSTR database, you can edit a panel directly in MaSTR, you can change the panel status, or you can delete a panel. You can also use the Upload function to add a new panel to the MaSTR database. See:
